Good day, Nigeria, welcome to Naija News roundup of Biafra/IPOB news headlines for today Monday, July 5th, 2021.
Below is a roundup of top stories on Biafra, IPOB, ESN, Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafra groups:
The lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Monday, denied that his client jumped bail and escaped to another country to avoid trial.
Recall that the IPOB leader was absent from trial following an alleged raid on his residence by security operatives in September 2017.
Ejiofor during an interview with Arise News on Monday accused President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of trying to assassinate Kanu due to lack of evidence against him.
The Department of State Services, DSS has been accused by the Indigenous People of Biafra of torturing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu since he was rearrested.
The spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful, threatened that they would cripple Nigeria if anything happens to Kanu while in detention.
Powerful in a statement noted that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is provoking the secessionist group.
According to the IPOB spokesman, “We declare without equivocations that the Nigeria Government should not take our calmness for granted.”
A self-acclaimed Igbo group, the Igbo Peace Forum (IPF) has stated that the activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are giving Igbos a bad name.
The group, while insisting that IPOB activities are endangering Igbo livelihoods in other parts of the country, urged President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to charge Nnamdi Kanu with mass murder.
Recall that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu was reportedly rearrested in Kenya and extradited back to Nigeria on the 27th of June, 2021.
He was then arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako who ordered his remand in the custody of the DSS until his next trial date.
