Paris Saint-Germain current manager, Mauricio Pochettino has been identified as Manchester United’s favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
Naija News reports that United on Sunday confirmed that embattled legend, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has left his role as the club’s manager.
OGS’s contract termination was announced in a statement on the club’s official website following the Red Devil’s humiliating loss to Watford in an English Premier League away match on Saturday.
Watford who currently seat in the 16th position in the league table thrashed United 4-1 in a more embarrassing play following a return from the International break.
Confirming OGS’s sack, United wrote: “Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision.
“While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.
“Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future. His place in the club’s history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments.
“He will forever be welcome back at Old Trafford as part of the Manchester United family.”
The club subsequently noted that former player, Michael Carrick would be in charge while United look for an interim boss until the end of the season.
Reports emerging on Sunday evening, however, claims that PSG’s Pochettino is United’s first choice to take over as the club’s manager next summer.
Naija News understands that Pochettino who still has one year to spend with PSG had helped Tottenham Hot Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019 but was dismissed in November of that year following a plunge in form.
After his dismissal from Spurs, the Argentine footballer manager was signed to Ligue 1 side.
Speaking on Pochettino’s possible move to United today, Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville said: “Although he’d never say it – would leave to come to Man Utd on a five-year deal tomorrow.
“He’d look at that group of players, he’d look at the club and he’d realise he’d probably be able to achieve more than he wants at Man Utd in terms of a project.”
Neville added: “At PSG you are on a season by season, ‘you’ve got to win the Champions League or you’re out- type of model. I don’t think that suits Pochettino. I think he would absolutely come to Man Utd on a five-year deal, with backing behind him.”
Manchester United are also said to be eyeing Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag and he is the club’s second choice for the role of Solskjaer’s long-term successor.
