Miriam Olusanya has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
Naija News reports that this was made known in a notice signed by the company’s secretary, Erhi Obebeduo, to the Nigerian Exchange Group Limited (NGX).
Recall that during the bank’s investor earnings in September 2020, the former MD Segun Agbaje disclosed that the bank was looking for a new MD.
He said five of the bank’s Executive Directors were in line for the top job and were at the concluding stages of the recruitment process.
Olusanya, who until her appointment was an Executive Director at the bank, becomes the first female Managing Director in GTBank’s history.
She has over 20 years of banking experience across various units, including Transaction Services, Asset and Liability Management, Financial Markets, Corporate Finance and Investor Relations.
She joined GTbank as an Executive Trainee and rose to the position of a General Manager until she was appointed Executive Director.
Recall that Naija News had reported that GTBank had come under fire in 2020 and 2021 for making banking difficult for its customers.
Many customers have been left distraught over their failure to carry out simple transactions on GTBank mobile app or via USSD. This led to unbearable levels of embarrassment.
The bank users at first thought it was a problem with their mobile network but this turned out not to be the case.
These frequent downtimes on the bank’s USSD or mobile banking services don’t seem to have been fixed as recent checks reveal that customers have been left with finding alternatives to carry out transactions.
It was gathered that a great number of GTbank customers have taken to social media to complain about their USSD platform, mobile application, unexplainable SMS charges, One Time Password (OTP) and people they send money to not receiving alerts, amongst other issues.
