While it lasted, Hillary Duff and Mike Comrie were quite the pair. Both were young when they got married and seemed to be so in love. However, things are seldom as they appear to be. Duff and Comrie ended up pulling a hard full-stop on their marriage, after 6 years as a married couple. Given Duff was just 22 when the pair tied the knot, the actress has been quite open about the fact that she might have been too young when she tied the knot. But regardless of the pair’s differences, Duff and Comrie enjoyed their time together, and while Duff is undoubtedly the more famous of the two, Comrie is quite the personality. So, for this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Mike Comrie.
Michael William Comrie was born on the 11th of September, 1980, in Edmonton, Alberta. Born to Bill and Theresa Comrie, Mike spent most of his early life in Alberta. His father and uncles owned The Brick furniture company, which was sold for $700 million in 2012. When Mike was 10 years old, he lost his mother to cancer. His father eventually re-married and in addition to his siblings, Cathy and Paul, Mike has two half-siblings, Eric and Ty Comrie. On the academic side of things, Mike attended Jasper Place High School. During his early years, he played in the 1993 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. He was drafted in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by his hometown Edmonton Oilers.
After being drafted by the Oilers, Comrie left the Western Hockey League (WHL)’s Kootenay Ice and joined the Oilers midway through the 2000/01 season. He played with the Oilers for a total of three seasons and secured a total of 133 points in 192 games from 2001 to 2003.
While Comrie was hailed as a hometown hero during his first couple of years, his status diminished in the 2003-04 season. In addition to a lackluster pre-season, Comrie decided to hold out in a contract dispute for more than 30 games into the 2003–04 season. He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in December 2003.
Comrie’s career with the Flyers fared no better than with the Oilers. He only played a total of 21 games for the flyers and was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. Following the labor lockout in 2004/05, Comrie signed with Färjestad BK but returned to the Coyotes after the league resumed. He recorded his second 30-goal season in the NHL and resigned for one more season with the Coyotes before being traded to the Ottawa Senators.
Comrie helped the Senators to reach the finals of the playoffs despite an arm injury that required him to use anesthetics to numb the pain. While the senators made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, they ended up losing 4-1 to the Anaheim Ducks. Comrie then signed with the New York Islanders for the season but was traded back to the Senators.
In 2009, Comrie made it back to the Oilers but had an injury ridden season. He later signed for the Pittsburgh Penguins but was sidelined for most of the season. He chose to retire on February 13, 2012, after a third hip surgery.
Canadian ice hockey player Mike Comrie has a net worth of USD 20 Million.
While Mike Comrie is presumed to be single at the present, he was previously married to Hillary Duff. The pair first met in 2007 and announced their engagement in February of 2010. The pair tied the knot on August 14, 2010, in Santa Barbara, and had a son, Luca Cruz Comrie who was born on March 20, 2012. The pair announced their separation in January of 2014, and Duff filed for divorce a year later. The divorce was finalized in 2016. While not much is known about the pair’s divorce, Duff once admitted that she might have been too young to marry.
“”I’d been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a young age seemed right for me [but] maybe it wasn’t. We spent the majority of our time together really happy,” she continued. “It wasn’t working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved. I was 22 when I got married. I’m now divorced, I have a 4-year-old. I wouldn’t change any of it for the world, however, I don’t think we were mature enough to stick it out.”
