LaVar Ball has an opinion on almost anything and everything. From his sons’ careers to picking on LeBron James, the man has the words for every occasion. And while they may not be right for most of them, LaVar is not the kind to let the chance to speak slide. But even for his nature, LaVar is oddly quiet about his wife Tina Ball. Despite talking about how his boys are the best and how Lonzo Ball, Liangelo Ball, and LaMelo Ball, will soon take over the NBA, LaVar barely mentions his wife and for varied reasons. So, for this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Tina Ball.
Christina Catherine Slatinsky [Tina Ball’s birthname] was born on the 11th of December 1967, in Miami, Florida. Born to Robert and Catherine Slatinsky. Not much is known about Slatisnky’s early life and the former athlete has kept most of the details under wraps. On the education side of things, Slatinsky attended the Alta Loma High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California in 1987, and was awarded a college scholarship for her excellent basketball skills.
Life as an athlete:
Slatnisky played basketball throughout her college years and was selected for the All-Baseline League in her senior year. She played for the California State University’s Golden Eagles Women’s basketball. Slatinsky left the team after four years and left the team with 8th in scoring with 935 points, fifth in blocks with 60, fourth in rebounds with 627, and eighth in free throws with 120. Following her graduation from California State University in 1991, Slatinsky folded her dreams of becoming a professional athlete and started working on the other side of the court.
Life as a coach:
Following her graduation in 1991, Slatinsky took up a position as the Athletic Director at Vernon Middle School in Montclair, California. Apart from her work with the school, Slatinsky also helped build the Big Baller Brand alongside LaVar and is working to secure lucrative deals for their sons.
Tina Ball is best known for her marriage to LaVar Ball and later as the mother of Lonzo, Liangelo, and LaMelo Ball. LaVar and Tina met during their college year. At the time, LaVar had just transferred from West Los Angeles College to Cal State Los Angeles and spotted Tina on the basketball court. Talking about the time he first spotted Tina, LaVar revealed that it was not her beauty that attracted him to her but it was her height.
“I see this tall girl, very attractive, walking down a hallway and I go, ‘I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’re gonna be doing something!’ Once that was in her head, I had her. I picked a big girl who was beautiful. A big stallion!”
The pair tied the knot in 1997 and went on to have three sons. The eldest Lonzo Ball was born on October 27, 1997, followed by LiAngelo Ball on 24th November 1998, and the youngest LaMelo Ball was born on the 22nd of August, 2001. While Lonzo plays for the New York Pelicans, LiAngelo is playing college basketball at UCLA and LaMelo plays for the Chino Hills high school.
Down with stroke:
In February of 2017, Tina suffered from a massive stroke that ended up affecting the entire Ball family. Talking about his mother’s stroke, Lonzo revealed that it was tough for the entire family, especially with them being on the media.
“When she went down, it was tough for everybody.Obviously, it’s a long journey with her. The whole time we know she’s strong but it’s tough just being with her the last couple years and seeing everything she has to go through. She rehabs five times a week. She understands everything, which is great. Now it’s just about getting her movement back and being able to get the speech out.”
Luckily, Tina seems to be back on her feet and has since taken her way to recovery.
