A boy, seven, has been hailed a hero after he bravely saved his baby sister from dying in a fire which engulfed their family home.
Chris Davidson, his wife Nicole, and their children had gone to bed as normal around 8.30pm when they woke to the smell of smoke. Within minutes the house had gone up in flames, Metro UK reports.
The couple were able to grab their sons Elijah, two, and Eli, seven, but their daughter Erin, 22 months, was trapped in her bedroom, surrounded by smoke and fire.
‘We went outside to get to her from the window, but there was nothing for me to stand on to reach up there. So I picked up Eli, who went through the window and was able to grab her from her crib.’
‘We couldn’t be more proud of Eli. He did something a grown man wouldn’t do.’ In an interview, Eli told how he’d grabbed Erin and said to Chris: ‘I got her, Dad.’ He went on: ‘I was scared, but I didn’t want my sister to die.’
More than 20 firefighters assisted with the blaze in New Tazewell, Tennessee, but the house was left completely destroyed. Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault.
