1. Police IG Scraps SARS Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has announced the immediate disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).

Adamu made the announcement during a live address on Sunday, 11th October, 2020.

The announcement follows the online and later physical protests by Nigerians against the activities of the SARS operatives which gained much traction last week.

The Police boss announced that the controversial police unit has been dissolved with immediate effect across the 36 states in the federation, and the Federal Capital Territory.

All officers and men previously deployed and serving in the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect to other units while new plans to combat thieves and other criminal elements by the Police Force will be announced in due time.

2. INEC Declares Governor Akeredolu Winner Of #OndoDecides2020

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling the winner of the 2020 Ondo State governorship election.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the Ondo governorship election at exactly 8 am on Saturday, October 10, amidst tight security.

The election took place in eighteen (18) Local Government Areas (LGAs) and two hundred and three (203) wards and three thousand and nine (3,009) polling units in the states.

According to the results of all the 18 LGAs announced by INEC, the incumbent Governor Akeredolu, who is seeking re-election, won 15 of the 18 Local Government Areas where the election took place.

Prof Idowu Olayinka, the INEC Returning Officer, declared Governor Akeredolu the winner Ondo 2020 governorship election with 292,830.

On the other hand, Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, polled 195,791 while Ondo Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) scored 69,127 votes.

3. #EndSars: Kano Gov, Ganduje Suspends Media Aide For Criticizing Buhari

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has ordered the immediate suspension of one of his media aides, Salihu Yakasai for criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari.

Yakasai, the Special Adviser on Media to Ganduje incurred the Governor’s wrath for speaking against the person and administration of President Buhari over the handling of the #Endsars protest.

The media aide had condemned Buhari for his failure to address Nigerians who had taken to the streets and on social media to demand the immediate dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

His outbursts came shortly before the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced on Sunday that the SARS unit has been disbanded with immediate effect.

However, reacting to the outburst by his media aide, the Kano State Governor in a statement on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information, Muhammed Garba described the position of the media aide as unbecoming of a public official in a matter of national importance.

The statement added the aide’s comment is capable of heating up the polity and Ganduje has therefore approved his immediate suspension based on his Twitter comments on the #Endsars protest.

4. Labbo Elected New NULGE President

Former North West Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ahmed Labbo, has been elected the new national president of the Union.

Naija News reports that the election which was held in Green Desert Palm Hotel, Airport Road, Kano, follows the death of the former National President, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel Abdulkadir, on October 7.

It was gathered that the NULGE constitution had mandated the union vice president to take over after Khaleel’s death but he has been incapacitated by health challenges.

Speaking after his election, Labbo said the union must focus on providing better livelihood for all our members and staff who shall be there tomorrow.

5. FG Officially Halts Salaries Of University Workers Not Enrolled On IPPIS

The disagreement between President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, seems not to be ending anytime soon.

The Federal Government on Saturday directed that salaries of any University worker who is not enrolled on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), be starting with effect from November 2020.

President Buhari had earlier stated during the 2021 budget presentation that lecturers not enrolled under IPPIS will not be paid.

A new directive contained in a memo from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) with reference number OAGF/IPPIS/446/1/159 and dated October 8, 2020 has now enforced the threat.

It was signed by the Director, IPPIS, Nsikak Ben, for the AGF.

The memo was issued to all university Vice-Chancellors through the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigeria, Federal Universities.

6. Ondo: Perform Better Than Your First Term – Buhari Tells Akeredolu

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to perform better than he did during his first term as governor of Ondo State.

Buhari was reacting to the re-election of Akeredolu for a second term in office.

According to the results of all the 18 LGAs announced by INEC, the incumbent Governor Akeredolu won 15 of the 18 Local Government Areas where the election took place.

Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled “President Buhari congratulates Rotimi Akeredolu on re-election as Ondo governor.”

The President commended INEC for organizing a credible election.

7. I Didn’t Try To Stop President Buhari From Ending SARS – Femi Adesina

Chief Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected allegations that he attempted to prevail on the federal government not to scrap the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

An online newspaper had claimed that Adesina attempted to prevail on the federal government not to “surrender to Twitter warriors.”

Nigerians had taken to Twitter, other social media pages and also adopted street protests to demand the immediate disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The government eventually submitted to the wish of the people on Sunday, 11th October when the IGP announced the immediate ban of SARS.

However, an online news report claimed the ban should have happened since Friday but Mr.Adesina prevailed on the government not to honour the peoples’ demand.

But Adesina in a statement on Sunday after the viral claims has rejected the story, describing it as evil, fake, and targeted at discrediting him.

8. #OndoDecides2020: APC Reacts To Akeredolu’s Victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appreciated the people of Ondo State for re-electing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the election which held on Saturday, 10th October 2020.

The APC noted that the people made the right choice in voting for the party’s candidate and assured that good governance, industrialization, security, empowerment, and general welfare of the state will continue to be the guiding principles of the administration.

Reacting to the results declared, the APC in a statement on Sunday by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena commended the people of Ondo for re-electing Akeredolu and called on other candidates to join hands with him in moving the state forward.

9. Governor Akeredolu Speaks After Winning Ondo Election

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu says winning Ondo election is a challenge to his administration by the “electorates for rededication to service in their interest.”

Naija News reports that Governor Akeredolu spoke at his Owo country home residence shortly after he was declared winner of Saturday’s governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Ondo Governor said the renewal of his mandate was an eloquent testimony to the degree of acceptance by the people and affirmed that the confidence reposed in his administration remained unshaken, this was even as he promised not to relent in making the people the centre of his administration.

Governor Akeredolu stressed that his victory at the Saturday polls it was a statement on the people’s assessment of his performance in the last three and a half years.

“It is unequivocal, direct, inspiring and soul lifting. It is awesome. It is a reward for hard work, dedication, focus, honesty and patriotism. It is also a challenge to us for rededication to service in the interest of our people. On this, we shall not relent,” the re-elected Governor said.

10. Moments After Scrapping SARS, Police Attack, Arrest #ENDSARS Protesters

Operatives of the Nigeria Police on Sunday attacked peaceful #ENDSARS protesters at the Force Headquarters with hot water and tear gas.

The protesters were at the Force HQ to demand for the release of everyone arrested for participation in the protest nationwide despite the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The protest turned chaotic when dozens of well-armed policemen approached the protesters, shooting at them with hot water from a water cannon and tear gas as the protesters scampered for safety.

Some of the protesters were arrested, with a number of them sustaining injuries in the pandemonium.

The attack comes moments after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the immediate disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).
