The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the governorship election in Edo State.
Professor Akpofure Rim-Rukeh, INEC’s Returning Officer, made the announcement on Sunday.
Obaseki, who is also the incumbent governor, polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, who got 223,619 votes.
Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Obaseki winner, said he was returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law.
Obaseki, formerly in the APC, before crossing to the PDP ran against a former PDP governorship candidate in the last Edo elections, before moving over to the APC. Thirteen other political parties also contested in the election.
