From Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale to Liverpool target Thiago – four transfers Manchester United could make before the deadline

Manchester United have made just one signing so far this summer with Donny van de Beek joining from Ajax.

The Dutchman’s £40million arrival will be a welcome boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the Norwegian will know he needs more signings if he is to try and bridge the gap to Liverpool and Man City this season.

Another top four rival, Chelsea, have also been extremely busy in the market, with SIX players joining the Blues so far this summer.

Arsenal are also on the up under Mikel Arteta and more signings must be prioritised for United if the club are to maintain their position in the Champions League.

Several top talents have been linked with a move to the club – including Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jadon Sancho – but the Red Devils have so far been reluctant to pay the German side’s £108m asking price for the 20-year-old.

But which other stars could be on their way to the club? talkSPORT.com has identified four transfers that could be done before the October deadline…

Benoit Badiashile (Monaco)

United are on the hunt for a new centre-back and a £23m deal for Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile has been mooted.

Solskjaer wants a new defender to partner Harry Maguire this season and the 19-year-old has emerged as his prime target, with Dayot Upamecano set to stay at RB Leipzig for another season.

United have already had a bid rejected by Monaco, but reports over the weekend suggest the Red Devils are set to come back with another offer in the region of £23m.

Badiashile scored three times in 48 games in all competitions since establishing himself as a regular in the AS Monaco team.

Sergio Reguilon (Real Madrid)

It is believed United are stepping up their pursuit of Real defender Reguilon.

Reports claim the Premier League side are locked ‘in talks’ with Los Blancos to sign the defender – voted the best left-back in LaLiga last season.

The 23-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sevilla during the 2019/20 campaign, will reportedly be available for around £23m.

Reguilon was hugely impressive for the Spanish side on their run to Europa League glory and he is said to have caught the eye of Solskjaer, who is looking to add competition in the left-back spot.

Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich)

Liverpool are front runners to sign the Spaniard but if Old Trafford chiefs have any sense they should hijack the deal.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has less than a year left on his contract and could be sold for £27m this summer – a snip for a player of his quality.

The 29-year-old, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, has proven himself to be a serial winner in Germany.

Thiago has won seven successive Bundesliga titles and four German Cups with Bayern since joining the club from Barcelona in 2013, but now wants to leave in order to take on a new challenge.

Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

Speculation has been rife over the future of the Welshman, who is out of favour under Zinedine Zidane at Real.

Reports have suggested the former Tottenham man is now being strongly considered as an alternative to Sancho.

It is understood Bernabeu chiefs are willing to pay half his £600,000-a-week salary in order to see the Welshman leave.

The 31-year-old came close to leaving last summer but the LaLiga club cancelled a deal with a Chinese Super League team at the last minute.

He ended up spending a lot of time on the bench last season and even asked not to travel to Manchester for Real’s Champions League clash with Man City in August.

Bale has a wealth of experience and has helped Real to 13 major trophies – including two LaLiga titles and four European Cups.
