Jamie Vardy should go down as a bigger Premier League legend than former Chelsea star Didier Drogba, talkSPORT has been told.

Vardy equalled a long-standing scoring record set by Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy on Sunday as he scored two penalties to fire Leicester to a 3-0 victory over West Brom in their opening game of 2020/21.

Vardy’s brace also saw him surpass the goal tally of another Premier League great, Drogba, but in 42 fewer games!

And when quizzed on talkSPORT Breakfast over who is a more legendary figure in England, Ally McCoist surprisingly opted for Vardy over the four-time Premier League winner and Champions League hero.

“Listen I’m am the biggest [Didier] Drogba fan ever. I’ve got to say I loved Drogba,” McCoist, who tried to sign Vardy while he was Rangers boss, explained.

“What Vardy has achieved and where he was at the early stages of his career at 19, 20, 21, 22 – I just think it’s amazing where he was playing and the goals he was scoring.

“And then all of a sudden, what nine or 10 years later he’s been an England international and part of the Premier League 100 club.

“I know it’s an incredible thing to say, but I’d probably go for Vardy [over Drogba] just because of what he’s achieved and where he was.”

Last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner will be hoping to add to his tally next weekend when the Foxes entertain Burnley – having scored in the same fixture last season in a 2-1 win at the King Power Stadium.
